We are currently in attendance at a property fire that initially came in as a microwave on fire in a first floor flat on Barnstaple Street, South Molton. At the time of call 3 fire appliances from Barnstaple and Witheridge were mobilised, together with an operational officer.

However, on arrival of Barnstaple crews and our officer they confirmed smoke was issuing and the property well alight, and requested further assistance for breathing apparatus and personnel. 2 further fire appliances from South Molton and Combe Martin were mobilised, together with a command support unit from Ilfracombe, and 2 more officers to assist with incident support. Shortly after entering the property concerned crews confirmed the fire had spread to the loft space of an adjacent flat and firefighting was increased to a total of 6 breathing apparatus, 3 hose reel jets, 2 safety jets and a thermal imaging camera.

At 18:09hrs the attendance was once again increased to assist with firefighting with crews mobilised from Bideford and Chulmleigh. Then at 19:18hrs 2 aerial ladder platforms were requested to attend, mobilised from Barnstaple and Danes Castle in Exeter, although the aerial from Exeter was returned en route as not required.

Update as of 22:45hrs - This incident is still ongoing with crews making good and steady progress firefighting internally and externally, damping down areas, to enable stripping away of building materials and carrying out salvaging. One male casualty who sustained injuries, was treated by crews on scene before going to hospital for further treatment. Further details will follow when available.

Update as of 05:55 - This incident is now closed and all fire appliances have left the scene. This property was a bakery with a flat above. The flat was severely damaged by fire and the bakery was damaged by fire and water. The cause of the fire was confirmed as accidental.
